Biography

Mrs. Marsha Lane Blackburn Greene, age 61, of West Jefferson, died Wednesday evening, January 13, 2010 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kirk McNeil, Rev. John Elledge, and Rev. David Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. prior to the funeral service at the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Greene was born in Ashe County on Thursday, September 30, 1948 to the late James Coy (Jake) and Inez Davis Blackburn. She retired from AF Bank. She was a member of West Jefferson Methodist Church. She especially loved her prayer meeting group.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, James. E. Greene on November 6, 2009. Marsha was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

She is survived by a son, Tony Greene and wife, Tyson, of Charlotte; a brother, Dickie Blackburn, of West Jefferson; two sisters, Libby Jones, of High Point and Jan Lewis, of Greensboro; a grandson, Jacob (Jake) Butler Greene, of Charlotte; a granddaughter, Julia Lane Greene, of Charlotte; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Tony, my heart hurts for all the sadness and loss you have experienced during the past few months. You had wonderful parents and you will have lots of wonderful memories. Your mom and I were great friends while she worked in Winston-Salem waiting for your dad to return from the military. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Tony, I cant' begin to tell you how much your Mom was loved and will be missed. I worked with her at AF and she was one of my dear friends.I love her so much. She was such an inspiration to to many people including myself. She taught me grace during my time with cancer.

Tony & family Your mother & father meant so much to our family. They treated our children as if they were their own. I spent a great deal of time talking to both Marsha & James over the years. Tony, I learned about both your dad and mom just today. As I worked for your dad at the original Northwestern Bank, I had the opportunity to speak with and see your mother many times. She was such a wonderful lady. She and Jim attended my mother's funeral service here in Wilkes in April of 2008 and were so compassionate and supportive. They were both truly wonderfully amazing people that I am thankful I knew. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family.

I remember lots of good times at the Blackburn house, and have spent many nights with them as we were neighbors and good friends.
