~~Mr. Ernest Glen Hentschel, better known as “Glen” age 84, of Fleetwood passed away Wednesday morning, August 16, 2017 at Margate Health & Rehab Center.
Mr. Hentschel was born in Buncombe County, NC on August 5, 1933 to the late John and Maude Biddix Hentschel. After serving in the United States Army, Mr. Hentschel graduated from Appalachian State University and pursued a career with the Federal Government as a contracting officer. Upon retiring from the US Department of Agriculture in 1992, Mr. Hentschel returned to Ashe County where he enjoyed farming and spending time with his many friends. He was a member of the Ashe County Republican Party and Rotary Club.
He is preceded in death by six sisters; Carrie Kelley, Ethel Cornelia Kelley, Margie Kelley, Myrtle Kelley, Edith Kelley, and Bonnie Kelley, and by three brothers; Randolph Kelley, Alvis Kelley, and Norman Hentschel.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Waugh Hentschel; one son, Ernest Glen Hentschel, II and wife Becky of Charleston, WV; one brother, Mack Hentschel and wife Yvonne of Hudson, NC; one sister, Jean Hentschel Sherrill and husband Jim of Hickory, NC; two grandchildren, Katelyn Elizabeth Hentschel and Eli Grayson Hentschel, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 1-2:30pm at Boone Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:30pm with Rev. Roger Newton officiating. Ernest Hentschel, II and Diane Roark will speak. Burial will follow at the Fleetwood Community Cemetery.
