Obituary of John Weaver

Mr. John Thomas Weaver, better known as "Tom", age 90, of West Jefferson passed away Tuesday morning, May 29, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Margaret Wannamacher officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Odd Fellows and military rites.

The family will receive friends from 11:30-1:00pm on Thursday; prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Weaver was born in Ashe County on September 19, 1927 to the late Zeb and Hattie Bishop Weaver. He served 20 years in the United States Navy. He volunteered with the Ashe County Rescue Squad for over 35 years and also served as the captain. He was owner/operator of Weaver Equipment Company. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for over 50 years and served as North Carolina Grand Master (2003-2004). He was a life long member and trustee of Smethport United Methodist Church. Tom was a avid fisherman, and had fished most streams from Horse Creek to the Madison River in Montana.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Miller Weaver on December 17, 2012; three brothers, Reeves Weaver, Rex Weaver and Dan Weaver; a sister, Kate Potter.

He is survived by: two sons, Mike Weaver and wife, Cathy of Catawba, NC and Joel Weaver and wife, June, of Jefferson; two sisters, Mary Bledsoe and husband, Carlyle, of Winston-Salem and June Worth of West Jefferson; a brother, Jimmie Weaver and wife, Donna of Jefferson; two grandchildren, Zack Weaver of Sparta and Amy Weaver, of Catawba; a step granddaughter, Jill Gambill, of Laurel Springs; two step great-granddaughters, Hope Gambill and Zoe Gambill; a special cargiver, Carolyn Calhoun and a host of loving caregivers; several nieces and nephews also survives.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers and Medi Home Hospice of the care through this difficult time.

The family will be meeting at the home place at 688 Beaver Drive in West Jefferson.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Smethport United Methodist Church, PO Box 1839, West Jefferson, NC 28694.

Pallbearers are as follow: Phil Worth, Danny Scott, Zack Weaver, Larry Calhoun, Dennis Severt and Thomas Worth.
